Hurricane Prep List 2018

This is my hurricane list that I’ve used over the many years of hurricanes we’ve been through.  Last year some people went weeks without electricity. I’m thankful that my house miraculously had power when most of the county is out. The following is a list of items that make after hurricane life bearable.

Some items may seem unnecessary but in some instances, stores may be closed or you may be stuck in your neighborhood. Also, stores were out of bread for a while, so stock up.

  1. Get your grill ready, with utensils and anything you need to use it
  2. Prep and test generator
  3. Fill up all gas tanks
  4. Batteries
  5. Matches/ lighter
  6. Lots of small tea lights to use at night as night lights- put in hallways, bathrooms – you’d be surprised at how dark it can get. The lights go out after about 2-3 nights, so get extra, you’ll be glad you did. I bought mine at michaels
  7. electric candles, lanterns, flashlights
  8. Radio or battery operated tv
  9. extra deodorant, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, paper towels, toilet paper

  18. Paper cups, paper plates, plastic ware
  19. freeze water in plastic freezer bags -trust me, you’ll thank me later- lay them flat in freezer
  20. fill up large tubs of water – not just your bathtub. I fill large storage containers with water for : animals, brushing teeth, wiping counters, cleaning dishes, flushing toilet. I’d fill 2-3 containers- and cover them up with a lid. I use the largest storage container I can find at walmart
  21. battery operated fans – lots!
  22. instant coffee
  23. phone battery packs
  24. laptop batteries
  25. sunscreen
  26. insect repellent
  27. prepare valuables/paperwork in a safe and waterproof place : license, ss card, insurance, certificates, etc
