Is Yoga for Christians? Yoga in Church

I love to workout, I love the gym, and now in quarantine, enjoy a good dose of youtube workouts ranging from dance, kick boxing, taebo, weights, cardio- you name it – it keeps me going. (Yes, I blog and despite the world’s perception of us, I’m not a big blob of fat and epidermis sitting here with unbrushed hair and last night’s food crusted on my face as I sit here typing, studying, reading and researching)

Let me tell you about my experience with yoga…. I LOVED YOGA, yes, loved it. Wow, I felt really good after each class. A serious Yogi instructor from India was our teacher. I did all the poses super good.( So proud of myself) I came out of each class feeling strong , super stress free and great..However, during the entire class, my conscience would be arguing with me (Or was it God’s Spirit?) that I needed to stop doing yoga. In each class, I had this ongoing inner debate going on about why I was okay to do Yoga. I would pray to God in the poses, and had no idea what the chants meant, but I would talk to God and pray while I did it, thinking, yeah I’m cool. However, my inner arguments during this awesome class were now with God. I said, come on Lord, you know I only worship you. The inner disturbance was too intense for me, so I switched yoga classes from the Yogi to a regular workout teacher with less chanting noises and so on. I mean, it’s just a workout class…..

The inner argument still came back! I was getting annoyed. I went home and did a little research. I did not like what I saw. One site after another warned about yoga for Christians. I told myself they were all crazy! I didn’t want to believe it. Yet the intensity of my inner debate with God was ruining my special time in yoga. So finally I prayed about it and my prayer went something like this: ” Dear Lord, I really like yoga, but if it’s something you don’t want me doing, I won’t do it. My relationship with you is much more important to me. I don’t know how you’re going to tell me this, I don’t know if you’re going to come down and tell me or what, but you need to let me know and I’ll stop” Prayer ends.

A week or two goes by and forgetting my prayer, I go to yoga class. I walk in, I roll my mat on the floor, take off my shoes – while I’m still standing…… and suddenly my entire body freezes – like I’m paralyzed. I couldn’t bend down to get on the mat. I couldn’t bend down to get my shoes. I was stuck in a board like position staring in the mirror, looking at all the people around me setting up their spaces for yoga class. They had no idea that my body had just turned into a stone like statue unable to move. Do I scream? I was shocked and terrified. I immediately remember my prayer and I’m also really really scared that I’m frozen. It felt like my legs and entire torso and arms were unmovable. I realize I can move my lower leg a little bit so I pick up my mat and shoes with my toes and walk out. As soon as I’m out of the door, I’m completely normal again. Say what you want, but that was my message, never never never going back, not going to mess with God about that, no way.

Let’s get to the facts:

Yoga means united and yoked, there’s just no way getting around the reality of that, and who do you think you’re yoking with? All the poses are worship stances to gods – yes, you already knew that but won’t admit it’s wrong. I know, I was there. This is very much like the idea of bringing the Hindu Color Run into churches (Christian view of the Color Run) Hosea 7:8 comes to mind now, God tells Ephraim – you have mixed yourself among the people, you are a cake unturned, worthless as a half baked cake.

For instance, one popular pose done in warm ups and cool downs is called the sun salutation. They are poses designed to greet the Hindu sun god. (Dt 17:”1-7 If there is found among you any man or woman who has been wicked in the sight of the Lord your God in transgressing His covenant AND WHO HAS GONE AND SERVED OTHER GODS AND WORSHIPED THEM, EITHER THE SUN OR MOON OR ANY OF THE HOST OF HEAVEN…..)If you are into yoga or an instructor, you may be very mad right now, but understand there are many other things you can do besides yoga. If you’re an instructor, you are not only harming yourself, but everyone in your class. You have a responsibility to stop. I believe yoga can bring on demonic oppression and well as possession.

I know a lot of readers won’t like this and have all kinds of arguments to speak back, but remember for a minute how satan works. He uses some truth and twists it, he is the master deceiver. There’s a lot more behind the ways of yoga, meditation and new age today that seem so innocent. Meditation is in the bible – we are told to meditate on the Word of God – if you really want to find healing and peace – Meditate on Scripture – It’s life changing! Yoga is directly linked to Shiva and the Kundalini spirit, “serpent energy”.

Does it glorify God? Are you glorifying your Maker and Creator as you stretch in poses that are originally meant to worship demonic deities? I really just wanted to share my story with you. Please take the time to do more research (and links I’ve attached) and not take it on your understanding to make it right, let it be God’s way that leads you- not your way.

As a follower of Christ, you are called to be Holy as He is Holy. Placing yourself in a Hindu ritual of poses that are intended to worship gods, is not a place for a Christ follower who strives for a relationship and holy walk with the Lord.

Yet, I know some don’t agree, but don’t worry, you’ll come around because I’ve already prayed for you!

Consider these Verses

Take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. Deuteronomy 12:30-31

But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed. 2 Cor 11:3

Do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations worship their gods? I want to follow their example.’ You must not worship the Lord your God the way the other nations worship their gods,

Do not follow the abominations of other nations Dt 18:9

I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you Romans 12:1-2

So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them. Hebrews 13:9

Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge 1 Tim 6:20

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple 1 Cor 3:16 ( Do you think it’s okay to continue to do poses to demons, follow teachings from demons with the Holy Spirit of God in you? Amos 3:3-Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction? and 2 Cor 6:14-16 How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols?)

the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.1 Tim 4:1 (Yoga is a teaching given to them from deities – demons)

Short story I want to share on answered prayer- years ago I was volunteering in my children’s school with the book fair. The book fair had just opened up and class by class was beginning to come in to buy books (K-8th). The first class comes in and immediately heads for the witchcraft, spells, demonic and death books. I kept trying to lead them to something more intelligent or more captivating, but they all gathered around this one section. My heart was so sad for these kids. The next class come in, they did the same thing. I did not know what to do. When that class left and while waiting for the next class to come in, I paced the area the kids were drawn to and I prayed over the area, I prayed non stop asking the Lord to protect them from these books and not let one child come this way to purchase these books on spells, witchcraft, horror , demons, etc. I’m praying, praying….The next class – same age, same grade- comes in NOT ONE CHILD CAME INTO THIS SECTION -and they were the most popular books at that time. I stayed for the rest of the day and continued to pray and it was amazing. It was as if God had stationed 2 angels there and throughout the time I was there, not one child was even remotely interested in looking at books in that area. It’s true! Say a Prayer, He hears, He answers. He is a God of the impossible.

Psalm 91- The Lord Protects me

I live in the shelter of the Most High
And I find rest in the Shadow of the Almighty
This I declare about the Lord on High,
He alone is my rock and my safety
He is my refuge and where I go to hide
When my enemies surround me
And a thousand fall at my side
Traps and snares try to grab me
But the Lord rescues and I rejoice gladly
Deadly diseases and a world of evil things
Yet My God covers me and protects me under His wings
His promises are yes and true
Our Armour, protecting me and you
I will not be afraid of the terrors in the night
Though the world tries to fill each heart with fright
The Lord goes before me, He strengthens me with His might
No evil can touch me, my prayers reach His heights
For I know He hears each word I pray
Protecting me each night and every day
I have made the Lord my refuge, a shelter is He
Therefore He’s promised no evil can conquer me
Plagues cannot touch those I love
His angels protect me, commissioned from above
They hold me up with their hands
And protect me as I walk through this land
I love my God, whose throne is on High
And Jesus, His Son, on His right Side

A dream about my church……..

These are 2 dreams I had that I believe were about my church. Not sure if I’m posting it for a read, for insight or just recording what’s on my mind. Whatever it is, here it is…..

A few years ago, I dreamt my pastor left the congregation and then soon afterward he announced he was leaving. In early 2019, I dreamt that a new young captain was assigned to huge cruise ship that we were all on, he was young and inexperienced and was getting all his orders from London and the goal was to lead us all to death. Within weeks of my dream, a new young pastor arrived, and come to find out, he was send to London to a church conference, flying first class – 14K$

Dream 1

In my large church, we had a restaurant upstairs so in my dream, I had entered a large room similar to the church restaurant. Everyone in the entire church was sitting at tables talking and laughing and having a great time of fellowship. The room was not lit up well, very dark. As I walked in, I started to say hello to the people I knew but I noticed that every person was sitting on an open toilet. Everyone kept inviting me to sit with them but I kept refusing because I thought it was disgusting to sit on an open toilet in public. As I continued to say no to everyone, they got angry with me. They started being very mean, aggressive and accusing me of thinking I was better than them, this went on table after table that I walked by. Suddenly, I had to use the restroom, I thought, there is no way I’m going here at a toilet at a table with people where we eat. I pondered what to do. I remembered the Pastor had a house, huge mansion, next door, I would try to sneak in to use his bathroom.

I snuck into the Pastor’s home. It was beautiful, lit up, white marble floors and chandeliers full of light. I found the bathroom to the left of the front door and surprisingly it was like a public restroom with 3 stalls in it. It was white, clean and pristine. As I walked in, I looked out a window to my right. I saw an old white pick up truck drive in and park. It was loaded with what looked like Samali pirates with machine guns, the back of the pick up truck was packed with the men and they started to jump out towards the front door. I heard the pastor say to his wife “We need to let the congregation go or they’ll kill us , maybe kill all of us, we need to let the people go now! We can’t let them know!”

I quickly ran back to the people sitting on the toilets and started telling them to get out! get out! This isn’t a stationary church, but it’s a moving train and if you don’t get off now, it will be too late! I frantically warned everyone, but no one listened. The more I warned, the funnier everyone thought it was. Then I stopped and pointed at the window. I said look, it’s too late, we’re already moving. We’re heading south.” My dream ended.

The Pastor soon announced he was leaving, the church was sad, and now as gossip goes, just this week I heard he was pushed out but I don’t know if that’s true. It’s just what I heard.

It seemed like it was a long long time that our church went without a pastor, we had a fill in pastor who is local and mostly well liked by everyone in the community. The church has a pastoral committee who supposedly was searching and I’m rolling my eyes as I write this sentence. So early 2019, I had dream that shook me up so much, I was borderline having my first panic attack because the dream was so frightening and real to me. The dream hasn’t left me and it continually pops in my head, even a year later.

Dream 2-

There was a huge ship that I was on. I had been living on it all my life. I knew my way around the ship, I knew the laws for safety, I knew how the ship ran, I knew almost every part of the ship and how it worked, how to keep people safe and how it operated. I was close to the captain- as a family member because he had taught me all my life the things I needed to know. We were on our regular course but for some reason needed to be rerouted. The captain was growing old and headquarters wanted him replaced with someone young, I’m guessing because a new young captain came to rule and run the ship. At first I was happy and looking forward to the new captain, but as he began to run the ship and talk to people, I kept telling him that everything he said was not right. He led the people through the dark bottom part of the ship showing us the engine room, electricity room and so on but he wasn’t leading us correctly. I continually pointed out all his errors but he ignored me. I remember telling him ” You’re not leading the people with a light, they are going to get hurt. You need a light to lead them through the darkness” He would not listen to me and continued to lead the large mass into the darkness as if they could see. He wasn’t like the old captain who knew how to run the ship. I began to worry as I saw more and more things going on that weren’t right for the people.

Then he was given orders to head back to headquarters – higher up-and drop everyone off at an island while the ship was rerouted so we didn’t have to take such a long voyage and we could relax on the island until he picked us up. He was told to tell us the island was a safe place for us to stay and he’d be back to get us shortly. The young captain was getting his orders from another authority but didn’t tell anyone. He pretended he was the one in charge, but behind him were other authorities.

We get to the island and the captain tells everyone to get off the ship, the people are happy and eager to trust the young captain and he seems confident as well. I get off the ship and quickly do a run of the island to see what’s there. I see skeletons, skulls and different degrees of dying bodies, death, decay… and I notice there is no food or water on the island. The ship is starting to sail off and I quickly run back and call for the ship to let me back on. I get back on and I tell the captain ” Are you trying to kill us? I don’t know what your up to, but we will die here. If your trying to kill us, I guess you’ll have to kill us on the ship because I’m not dying on an island” He gracefully and friendly welcomes me back on board and we head north to headquarters – seems like It’s in England that we’re heading to- and where he is getting his orders from. But again, no one knows he’s getting orders from another place except for me, because for some reason, I can see it happening.

We sail on and the leaders for headquarters are on the ship. Suddenly we’re on a new boat with same young captain but new high authorities were there behind him. They spoke very positively to us so everyone was comfortable and confident that they were leading us the right way and in safety. They soon told us that they had assigned rooms to all of us and we needed to slide down a short chute to the floor below to get our room assignment. What seemed like hundreds or thousands lined up behind the 4 chutes that we had to slide down to get to our room.

I saw my husband quickly jump and slide down the 3rd chute, I was first in line for the first chute, I saw him mention to my daughter to slide down after him so I watched her jump in also. I quickly jumped in behind her so I could be with them.

I began to slide down quickly, but I was sliding for a while. I tried not to panic. It was like being stuck in a dark mri. I realized this wasn’t going to the floor below. I was too far down to even communicate with people above me or warn theme. My children were below me and hundreds of people had jumped in the chute above my head. The chute got tighter and I could barely move. I couldn’t move up, I knew a line of people were on top of me in the chute. I had to inch my way down as it got tighter and tighter. I was trying not to panic as I was tightly packed in darkness, soon after much time of inching my way down I felt water at my feet. I was being sent to my death along with my family and everyone in boat.

The captain and his cohorts had lied to us, they smiled and acted like our best friends but their intent was pure wickedness.

I woke up from the dream scared out of my mind. I felt so close to terrifying death. That morning was Sunday and I headed off to church to my bible group. I kept having to step out of the study room (8X) because my mind kept reliving the same feeling I had in the trapped chute. My mom prayed for me later that day and all my panic and fear left me.

Soon afterward my dream-within a month, it was announced that a pastor had been selected. A new young pastor and his family were hired by the pastoral committee. It’s been a year since he’s been on board and he’s turned the church upside down, fired almost everyone, changed our groups, kids events and everything about it including things we had going on for at least 50 years. I know a lot of horrible things that have gone on behind the scenes in the last year , but I have kept silent (is it gossip? is it hearsay? Is it true?) and now a petition is out to oust him.

The church situation in the world is pathetic. It’s a big business, money making machine with unseen puppeteers.
